We find ourselves here again. Has an entire year really gone by already? The room is dark and crowded with strangers and familiar faces alike. Holiday lights draped from the ceiling bring an ambiance to the room as the music begins..
Their voices carry out in harmony bringing a hush to the crowd as we listen and hang on to every note. There is so much talent on this stage. It will surely be a night we hold onto.
Music has the power to bring such peace and calmness.
The songs first sung are filled with a strength that show how moving words can be. It is Christmas time… we sing for celebration and wonder. The story fills our hearts and brings us back to a time and place where we feel so many different emotions take hold.
Through words and more songs, comes thoughts spoken out loud.
We live in a world of so much uncertainty much like that time in Bethlehem all those years ago. Then hope came along in a manger that cold night….
The piano keys play softly. The singers begin again as we all wonder what will come to be in our own world.
A voice carries out across the room.
This is a melody that we all know. Some hum. Others sing along to the chorus. Many are gently swaying. A few have their eyes closed.
I think back to a time where my parents took care of me and my worries could easily go away with a hug or just a bit of reassurance.
It doesn’t work that easily as an adult but yet we still need all of that.
A saxophone plays to put a bit of liveliness back into the set. The tune is more upbeat. This is a season for joy.
A baby is to be born soon. The mother lays a protective hand on her belly singing her solo. A little one dances around the floor as she listens to them play.
Another instrument carries out a mesmerizing sound and a guitar is strummed along as the melody changes.
With each song, their eyes twinkle as they look out among their family and friends. Does everyone know how much they are loved? My mind wanders as I think of the words spoken earlier.
Kindness matters. Being there for someone is. The world may be full of so much that we can’t always speak of but in this room there is just a little something merry…
And with that comes comfort, joy, and that my friends, creates hope in our hearts.
Much like that time so, so long ago that changed everything.
Have yourself a merry little Christmas.
At the beginning of every December, my wonderful friend Tracie puts on a performance with some of her closest friends and family. They sing a range of Christmas songs that bring so much happiness to all of us watching and listening. I wrote about last year’s performance because it moved me so much. You can read about it here. As it goes in the song, this year was a comfort and joy.
