Today, you were born and when I held you for the first time, I didn’t know what to say. You had quite the pair of lungs on you though. There was a full head of hair and you just snuggled into me. I whispered so many things to you at night while you were sleeping. I waited so long to meet you.
Today, you walk in holding my hand. We are both unsure about your being there but I think we can do this. You cry as I wave goodbye and I leave quickly. Back in my car, it is my turn to cry, wondering if I am doing the right thing. Later when I pick you up, they tell me you sang and played all day. The next day when I bring you, there is a bit of a smile even if there are some tears.
Today, you are little and your eyes light up at the sight of trucks, cars, and anything Minions related. I wish these simple things will always make you happy but I know and eventually you will too…that there is so much more out there to bring you joy.
I watch you hold doors open for others and get excited when they say thank you.
You ask so many questions and grow impatient when you realize that mommy doesn’t have all the answers.
I am amazed at how much you have changed in such a short amount of time.
Today, you are a bit bigger.
Your heart is still filled with joy but now there is so much more going on. You spend your days in school. Your teachers love you. You can even read. Gone are the days your dad and I can spell things we don’t want you to hear.
You build things on an app and are obsessed with all things Minecraft and Pokemon related. You still ask as many questions but you know so much now too. I can barely keep up.
You sometimes forget to hold doors now as you are so busy rushing to the next place we are going. I hear you say please and thank you without being reminded all of the time. There is homework to do and practice to rush to.
Sometimes you help me with your little sister.
What will your world look like the next time I think about these things?
