There are these moments in parenting where we question so much of what we do. Sometimes when everything goes right or close to enough, we can take a deep breath and enjoy it all.
Or at least most of it.
Being a mom or dad is exhausting for so many reasons. There are articles, books, blogs, and so on with ways to be a better parent. This includes ideas before the child is even born! You can visit websites that show you step by step how to throw the perfect party, decorate the ideal bedroom, and even create crafts for every season.
Its non-stop. Did I mention exhausting already? Oh right. I did.
We took the kids to the beach over Thanksgiving. You know the holiday where we give thanks for all that we have. At some point, we were being thankful that the tantrums were shorter, remembering to breathe after they fought for the hundredth time, and that the kids didn’t break anything in the hotel room.
I know. I know. We forgot to read the all the information on how to have the perfect vacation.
Then the moments came.
They played ball and colored together. He helped her get her blanket. She fell down. He said it would be okay. He was upset over who knows what and she said it would be okay. They fought again and they said sorry. We saw smiles and heard laughter.
I got to read a book. Hubby got to shop on his computer for black Friday deals. Our kids played on their own and were having a good time.
All of the information out there can never give you that moment of knowing somehow this whole parenting thing really does come together at times. It is okay to make mistakes and it’s even better to show kids that we don’t always have the answers or the best way to craft something but we know how to try. Kids will not always be on their best behavior. They too will have times where they struggle. We show them how family lifts each other up, holds tight and doesn’t let go.
For those are the moments that last.
