Forgive me if I ramble a bit on this one. My emotions like so many others are all over the place this week thanks to our Election Day.
My mind is spinning from different things I have read on social media from both sides. I have watched people cry, anger take over, and protesting going on in the streets. From looks of disbelief to people celebrating, I am starting to need an online time out for my own sanity.
There are a lot of uncertain times ahead. This would be the case with any candidate elected but this election really got me thinking about so much.
Issues such as education, childcare, maternity/paternity leave, LGBT rights, police protection, poverty, black lives, and even refugees matter to our family. Other than posting different things on Facebook or sharing them with friends, I have not done as much as I could.
I have never written a letter to any of our representatives here in North Carolina and anyone who lives here can tell you that they need to hear from more people. I have not gone into any building since my volunteering days before kids and asked, “How can I help?” We elect officials to represent us and after Election Day, we need to remind them that they still need to earn our votes for next time or at the very least, our respect.
These are just some of the things I am thinking about.
I am a teacher. Kids in my classrooms over the years come from all kinds of families and walks of life. I have friends who have all different kinds of families. My husband and I will be teaching our kids to respect others and to stand up for those who cannot do so themselves. We must lead by example. Children in my classrooms know that I will always be there for them. They are our future leaders.
This piece is not directed so much at anyone but rather a reflection on ourselves.
What will be your call to action?
Thanks for reading my latest! This has been brought to you by my awesome friend Sara who talked me into signing up for the November monthly blogging challenge. Now, I am officially as crazy as she is! Although she has the whole awesome thing going for her too! I appreciate everyone’s support!
