Time to ring in the New Year!
- Eat right
- Quit a bad habit
Look familiar to you? There is nothing like going 365 days and then thinking, tomorrow will be different.
Changes will happen because they are going to be called resolutions.
Do you remember returning from the holiday break to write out your resolutions for school? As a teacher, I love seeing what kids come up with. My favorite is, “ I will not fight with my brother or sister.”
Even first graders know resolutions do not always work out.
So why do we make them?
Hope? Change? Road to all that is happy?
Everywhere you look on social media, people are either embracing the idea or making fun of it.
I used to be that person who would list things and by January 2 realize that in order to work out at a gym, I actually had to join one.
It wasn’t happening.
My resolutions have changed over the years. I tend to make them more abstract now so I can at least say there has been some form of accomplishment.
For example, I will be a kinder person who will have more patience in times that call for it.
Translation: I won’t be upset when there is a line at the Starbucks drive thru.
Here is another:
I will be the friend that is always there for others.
Translation: My friend is in need and I will arrive with wine, chocolate, and ice cream. Also side note that if I did make eat better and drink less my resolutions, this one would make those null and void on account of being a good friend.
However as 2016 is just days away, I find myself sitting here thinking about the past year. Things happened that I didn’t even see coming. There were no resolutions that I made at the start of 2015 that would have prepared me for events that happened. So of course I have all of that in mind as I think about the new year coming.
I end with this.
- Don’t diet. Girls Scout Cookies come back in January.
- Be happy.
May you all have good health, happiness, and thin mints in the new year.
Thank you all for reading 40 Wishes and Counting these past few months and being so supportive of my writing adventures. I am hoping that you continue this fun journey with me in the new year. Wait…is that considered a resolution??!!! 🙂 Find me on Facebook too!
