A Million and One Questions. Welcome to Toddler Life.

October 14, 2015 By: Stacey2 Comments

My 4 year old likes to talk… A LOT! It seems like he has been talking forever. Mostly because he really doesn’t stop. I remember when my husband said awhile back that he couldn’t wait for our little one to get into the asking questions stage.

questions

Trust me. You can wait was my response.

But you know these things will always come to a toddler so he began like any other with the “ Why” stage. Hubby finally understood why I was not in any rush for this newfound curiosity.

Why can’t we have cake for breakfast? (Good point but that’s only for mommies.)

Why can’t I listen to Elmo Christmas music every time we get into the car? (It’s freaking March.)

Why do I have to wear pants?

Why are you going out?

Why is it dark out?

And so on and so on…

Eventually, he eased up a little but now we have entered a new phase where he likes to throw in some whats, hows, whens, and wheres. I thought at this point, we could handle it. Little did I know.

On the way home from school the other day, he wanted me to tell him about the time he used to be in my belly. Then, he wanted to know who put him in my belly. One minute later, he wanted to know how he got out.

This is all going to drive me to drink.

Yes, I know…I do that already but it’s really going to make me drink even more. I am not ready for this kind of questioning! What is next?My mind goes everywhere with this and I know it’s going to change as he gets older and has more observations.

It’s also going to make me google. Obviously not about the baby part (I pretty much know how that one happened.) but other subjects.

Recently, we read a pop up book about dinosaurs. This brought on all new ideas for him.

Where do they live?

How come they are dead?

Were they here when I was 2? 3? When I was born?

Will they bite me?

I know some answers and others I just can’t seem to explain at a level he understands. I am realizing that these are just the start of the next phase where there will be even bigger questions down the line.

When will I be old enough?

Why can’t I go to the party?

How late can I stay out?

Can I take the car tonight?

I think we will take a new perspective and enjoy the questions that are going on right here and now. We can take our time getting to those.

Someone please pass me a glass of wine and tell me why the sky is blue.

Please feel free to share this. Can you relate? Comment and share! You can also find 40 Wishes and Counting on Facebook.

IN Myrtle Beach he asked me why there are waves; why is there gravity; why is there a moon: why does the earth turn; why is there water at the bottom of the sand. Love hearing all these questions from him. He’s just like his Daddy. An inquisitive mind creates a very intelligent adult. I treasure those moments. I would read Richard Scarey books to Adam. So much is going on, on each photo of those books. Imagine all the questions he would ask!!

It’s crazy when they start and won’t stop asking questions. I always enjoy inquisitive kids, but it is tough to figure out how to answer in a way that they understand.

Moments go through my mind like a movie on the slowest play possible. Everything from the past year plays before me.  I analyze and spend so much time reflecting. Most of all, I question so much of it. This is the night before I turn 43. Bring on the cocktails because I am about to […]
