Some days I long for childhood. The place where there are hardly any responsibilities and someone else takes care of you. There is one show that takes me back to those days of being a little girl with hardly a care in the world…
The Muppet Show.
My brother and I didn’t watch a lot of television when we were little during the week but we were allowed to stay up and watch this.
The show had so many great characters. That theme song would come on and I would get SO excited and sing along.
Go ahead and click. You know you want to sing too:
Guest stars showed up weekly that were amazing to see interact with the characters.
The Muppets always made me laugh. Fozzie had terrible jokes. Gonzo and his chickens were quite the sight. Animal was… well, he was an animal. Kermit the Frog was too good for Miss Piggy and yet I wanted attitude like her. She always believed in herself even if she was not very nice about it. I loved the Swedish chef and his crazy kitchen actions. My absolute favorites were Statler and Waldorf. I could relate to the sarcasm and quick comments that probably should not be said out loud. There were so many more characters that each had their own fun craziness.
All of their movies were awesome too. My first movie at the theater happened to be The Muppet Movie that my grandma took me to see.
The Muppets kind of went out with my childhood except for some appearances here and there.
Recently, they have made a comeback thanks to the 2011 movie, The Muppets.
A new show even started this past week.
I wanted to be a kid again laying on the couch watching TV without worrying about anything. In the first 5 minutes, I felt like that again until I started looking at it from a parenting point of view. Coincidentally enough, I was also doing laundry and writing out a grocery list. Oh, how times have changed!
This new Muppets show is geared towards more of an adult audience. There are a lot of jokes that if kids were watching, it would most likely go over their heads. Of course, my oldest is 4 so I am not 100% sure of that one. For 30 minutes, I laughed out loud at so many jokes and how things have changed. It was fun and brought back good memories. Kermit has broken up with with Miss Piggy. However, she still is the center of attention. Fozzie despite his bad jokes still has a career at it and even has a girlfriend. Scooter continues to run around trying to help Kermit. The band is playing with Animal crashing through drums. My favorite guys are back doing their thing.
Although, there is one thing that has not changed.
I still want Miss Piggy’s attitude.
Even if I can’t get back to childhood, I can still be a kid at heart when watching.
