It was a beautiful day at the beach. The water was the perfect temperature and the sun was shining bright. Deep in the sand, my mother in law and the 4 year old had been digging a hole. I think they were going to China or something.
Sadly, they never made it to China but they did have the BEST time!
My MIL stops and asks my hubby if he remembers building gigantic sandcastles at the beach with his brother when he was younger. Her face was full of excitement as she was obviously having flashbacks.
Hubby had some vague response but he was not recalling it as fast as she was. To be honest, the guy can barely recall things from 5 minutes ago let alone 30 years ago.
Guilty of never remembering anything especially things to do around the house.
It got me thinking though.
We do so much with our children. There are places we go in the hopes of making magic happen. With every season, there are different activities that are a must on our list to do. It’s all about the experiences. There are even cute signs and ideas from Pinterest to help make it even more memorable.
In this generation, they get the events documented everywhere. From cameras to social media, if my kids don’t remember these times, all of my 500 closest friends can remind them.
Mommy packed for one hour just for this weekend trip. YOU will remember this!
After each crazy memory making fun, we always talk about it to our kids. My son claims never to have fun because he is always in his misery when it is over. He forgets there are new ones coming.
So, here I sit wondering if in the future I will be playing with my grandkids at my assisted leaving place (because lets face it, I am an old mama) and I ask my kids, do you remember the time when…
In the case of blank stares…
I will have no fewer than a million pictures ready, 100 plus blogs printed out, and videos to show.
We will spend as long as it takes remembering all of our moments.
In fact, I am kind of hoping we get to do that anyway.
As crazy as you both are, I will always miss you at these ages!
