This past week, we celebrated our anniversary.
Not our wedding anniversary but our dating one. The when we met story and where it all began.
The real one.
People look at me funny when I say that. I hear comments reminding me about our wedding date. Not only that, in case I forgot, all of our 200 closest family and friends were there and that makes it the official anniversary.
Maybe that’s why I don’t think it’s the real one.
12 years ago we were set up on a blind date by a teacher friend. My husband had grown up with her kids. She had been telling me about him for a year. I finally agreed to it.
We met at a park. It was one of those days where the weather was perfect and everyone was out. We threw a Frisbee around. Anyone who knows me will tell you thats not my thing. Hubby will tell you that it figures since I sucked at it.
The two of us sat for hours on the grass and just talked. Random things about each other came out. The conversation came easily and we laughed a lot.
We left it off with a semi awkward hug and I went home wondering if he would call.
The next day, my teacher friend asked me what I thought. My response? “I love him!” She told me I was crazy and I said I know, not that kind of love but he is awesome. We really had a lot of fun. Little did I know…
Two days later, he called.
Three dates later, he wanted to make it exclusive.
Two years later, we moved to North Carolina from New York and got engaged.
Fast forward another two years and we were married.
Its been 12 years and since then, we have added a couple of crazy mini me’s and a cat.
And yet that day is the one we celebrate.
It all started with just “us”.
July 18th is our “US” date..or the date when I finally stopped being scared and thought Lets do this.. He’d ask me out and my head was like hmm.. but my heart was like YOUR STUPID YOU’VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS! Anyway, It was followed by me going to Country Thunder USA and forgetting my SD card which be brought me and stayed for the concert only for the concert to be be delayed secondary to Tornado warnings… So we spent that inside of the camper I was staying in with some friends on the camp grounds with crazy winds, awesome people in an amazing atmosphere. first weekend as a couple 🙂 Country music, extreme weather and great friends/ BF! some of the best times 🙂 11yrs later here we are.
P.S. Hank Williams Jr lost respect from me as he rushed through his set, didn’t give an encore secondary to weather delay (or so we were told)
errr make the 10 yrs… Math was never my strong suit 😉
I LOVE that picture of you two and love the story. Awwwww!
Super sweet! Love the pic!
