“Tomorrow is going to be HOT, HOT, HOT! Highs will be in the upper 90’s.” The weatherman seems to be shouting through my TV and it is like a sign to me…I must be prepared.
The kids will be home from school tomorrow and one summer day here can feel like it takes an entire year to get through.
I will be ready to keep them busy and have fun!
However this is what actually happened…
I woke the kids up before daylight. This way, we could get out and about before it got really hot. It may have been about 5am but we got out all of the tricycles and scooters and started to play in the driveway. The kids were so tired they were practically falling off the bikes. My husband came out with a flashlight demanding to know what I was up to.
“We have to get outside time in before it gets too hot!” I declared. He shook his head and went back inside.
The kids were starting to complain they wanted breakfast so we went in and ate. At 6am, my oldest turned on the TV but I told him we were having none of that today. It was a day to enjoy summer! I had very high hopes.
We played inside until it was 8am and time for the pool to open in our neighborhood. At the pool, we jumped in, ready to feel the cold water and stay cool. Only it felt like…bath water! The hot summer days made it so warm that we lasted all of an hour there so we headed back home. I decided to break out the Slip n Slide! I know, I know. I am the cool mom. Or I was anyway until I decided to try it and put a hole in it. That was the end of the Slip n Slide. The kids were not happy.
It was okay. We played on the playset. Only if you sit on the slide, you will burn yourself. Good thing I went first although my legs are still not happy with me. So much for that.
We played in the sandbox. Let’s just say a lot of sand is gone thanks to baby girl eating it faster than I could stop her.
Back into the house. We had so many toys to play with. There were games waiting to be won. That’s when the fighting started between brother and sister.
It was 10am.
By 10:15, I was DONE. It was too hot outside and there was nowhere to go.
I did what any parent would do to keep sane. I put on a movie and went to make myself a pina colada.
It’s 5:00 somewhere and it’s summertime.
